What is a CSCS Card? 

A CSCS card provides proof of a person's competency in safely performing a construction job. Based the individual's qualifications and the role they want to pursue, they can apply for a specific CSCS card. There are seven main cards that CSCS produces for the construction industry.

To apply for a Blue CSCS card you must hold a NVQ or SVQ level 2 or, if you have completed an apprenticeship which included the achievement of a City and Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate.

There are many interesting trades that you can get into by being in possession of a blue card. If you are operating in a role that is trade-specific, the chances are that you will need a card.

To be eligible to apply you must have one of the following: 

  • A Level 2 NVQ or SVQ
  • Employer sponsored apprenticeship
  • You must take and pass the Operative CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test, this means out of 50 questions; you should be able to get a score of 47.
